Began as a nonalcoholic syrup before alcohol was added decades later to extend its shelf life for export. Today it's produced by the historic rum house R.L. Seale, using sugar cane, lime, almond, and clove, and remains an essential ingredient in classic tiki cocktails like the Zombie and the Corn n' Oil.
