Product Details

Intense gold in the glass with a fine, sustained bead that signals the long lees aging. The nose leads with hawthorn and white flowers, then moves into toast, marzipan, and ripe pear, with pastry-cream and citrus edges as it opens. The palate is silky and precise, medium-bodied, carried by fresh acidity that keeps the fruit taut, with a fine creamy mousse and a honeyed undertone from time on the lees. The finish is clean and mineral, and leaves the mouth watering.

Deutz sits in Aÿ, one of Champagne's Grand Cru Pinot Noir villages, and the house builds its reputation on finesse rather than power. What makes this bottle over-deliver for an entry cuvée is what's behind it: three years minimum on the lees — roughly double the legal minimum for non-vintage — and 25 to 40% reserve wines folded into every blend for consistency and depth, all bankrolled since 1993 by Louis Roederer, which took over the house and rebuilt its cellars. Since 2022 the cellar has been run by chef de cave Caroline Latrive, who came from neighboring Ayala; the Roederer group is one of very few to entrust two of its houses to women at the top of the cellar. This is the wine that defines the Deutz style, at the price where you can actually pour it.
