A deep red, thick, syrupy crème packed with ripe blackcurrant, sweet, jammy, and rich, with the dark berry depth cassis is known for.
De Kuyper traces to 1695, when Petrus De Kuyper began making casks and barrels for the shipment of Dutch spirits and beer, and the family later moved into distilling in Schiedam, the Netherlands' gin capital. The house began making cocktail liqueurs in the 1920s and received a royal endorsement from Queen Beatrix on its 300th anniversary in 1995. Crème de cassis itself comes from Burgundy, where blackcurrants were juiced and blended with sugar and spirit in the nineteenth century.
