Ichiro Akuto is no stranger to maturing his whiskies in wine barrels. Examples of his single malts aging in these casks range in location and flavor from the local variety of Japanese Koshu to esteemed French Bordeaux. Ichiro's Malt Wine Wood Reserve is a vatting of foreign single malts along with Chichibu's own malt whisky, all matured in a range of wine barrels from all over the world. The intensely warm summers, and brutally cold winters of Chichibu lend to a depth in maturation that yields intensely fruity flavors of raspberry, currant, and rich dark chocolate. This is wine cask maturation at its zenith of craft.
