VINEYARDS | The 2023 Oregon Violet Hill is a perfect balance of fruit from the Willamette Valley and Umpqua Valley AVAs. In Umpqua, we delved into a tiny single vineyard Red Hills Douglas sub-appellation with the same iron-rich, red volcanic Jory soils found in Willamette, formed from the uplifting of ancient volcanic basalt. Red Hills Douglas, perched at 800-1,200 feet without the protection of the Coast Range, is subject to cooler growing season temperatures. This unique condition results in leaner and more structured wines, a distinct characteristic compared to other AVAs within Southern Oregon and a testament to the influence of the environment on the wine's structure..
WINEMAKING | Primary fermentation in small open top vats is followed by malolactic conversion and ten months of aging in a combination of French oak and tank.
TASTING NOTES | Light to medium-bodied, this wine has primary aromas of bright cherry, berry compote, subtle tea spice, and floral notes. It is fruit-forward with a lovely lift and a smooth and silky texture.
