At just the age of 23, Juan Antonio Ponce (pronounced Pon-thay) started Bodegas Ponce in 2005 with an approach that is both fashionably and traditionally low-intervention. Biodynamic farming techniques, low levels of sulfur dioxide, and wild yeast fermentation all help result in a carefully crafted wine with balanced acidity and tannin. This Bobal checks all the boxes for a natural, and chillable red!
Serving Suggestion: Manchego until the cows (I mean sheep!) come home. Grilled toasts w/ olive oil, avocado, & jamon topped by a fried egg sprinkled with Spanish paprika.
Tasting Note: A great follow up to the 2022. Deeper ruby color, some purple. Pronounced nose with deep fruit up front, dark red berries and cherries, cinnamon spice, sweeter violet pastilles, and a present core of minerality. The palate is med/med+, med+ tannin are ripe and nicely integrated in the structure, med/med+ acidity, intense but fresh flavors, long, fresh, slightly tannic finish. Lots of perfume resonating on the palate. Another winner.
