Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Burgundy. Named for Duband's grandfather, Louis Auguste is the domaine's entry-level rouge and arguably one of the most overdelivering bottles in all of Burgundy for the price. Duband sources from old vines in the elevated hillside villages above the Côte de Nuits — Arcenant, Marey-lès-Fussey — where cooler temps and limestone soils push freshness over weight. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was exceptional: ripe, structured, and expressive without the flabbiness that warmer years can produce. Expect dark cherry, wild strawberry, violet, and a fine earthy undercurrent with silky tannins and genuinely good acidity for the appellation. Whole-cluster fermentation is a hallmark of Duband's style and you feel it here — a subtle savory spine, a bit of stem grip, added complexity that punches above the regional classification. The "Louis Auguste" label is a gateway drug into Duband's Premier and Grand Cru lineup.
