Anselmo Mendes is one of the most important producers in Portugal. He has been called Mr Alvarinho because of his efforts in making and popularizing the varietal in his home country. His winery is located near the village of Melgaço in Vinho Verde. Contacto is in reference to his early experiments with skin contact with the varietal, something that many producers are now doing. This wine only has a short period of contact, enough to help develop more aromatic and a little texture, not enough to impact the color of the wine. This is a remarkably complex wine with focused mineral, elegantly lean fruit, and unrelenting acidity, making it particularly well suited for fresh seafood.
