Mendoza, Argentina. Bonarda is Argentina's second most-planted red grape and its most underappreciated — perpetually overshadowed by Malbec despite being capable of genuinely compelling, food-friendly wine in the right hands. Durigutti, run by brothers Héctor and Pablo, is one of Mendoza's most respected boutique producers and their Bonarda is a sharp value play: deep purple, intensely fruited, with notes of plum, blackberry, violets, dark chocolate, and a savory, slightly rustic earthiness that separates serious Bonarda from the generic stuff. The 2019 vintage in Mendoza was balanced and expressive. Medium-full body, soft tannins, refreshing acidity for the weight. Put this next to anything braised or grilled and it disappears fast.
