Chatagnier's Côte-Rôtie comes from two postage stamp parcels that Aurélien planted on some family land that fortunately happened to be in the Côte-Rôtie appellation. The vineyards are treated organically, like everything else at the domaine, and vinification is the same as in Saint-Joseph. The striking difference, of course, is the terroir - the majesty of Côte-Rôtie is clearly evident in each bottle, which can gracefully age for decades. The other difference, unfortunately, is the miniscule production - less than 100 cases are produced in a good year.
